De bindende kracht van een Marathon in Coronatijd. (verslag van  Inne en Yves)

Als gevolg van dat akelige COVID-beest zagen vele ABES’ers de éne na de andere loopwedstrijd in het water vallen. Onze atleten die voor de marathon van Antwerpen trainden vormden daar helaas geen uitzondering op. Daarom besloten enkele enthousiastelingen van ABES om een marathon te organiseren met zo weinig deelnemers dat zelfs COVID-19 geen stokken tussen de wielen kon steken. Het resultaat: op 12 september stonden er 10 lachende gezichten aan de start van de MaraNithon, de kleinste marathon van ‘t land.

Die kleine marathon werd groots aangepakt: 4 bevoorradingsposten, 10 fietsbegeleiders, een volledig afgepijlde route, finish-goodies en bloemen, medailles, er werd zelfs een website (https://yvesmuyters.wixsite.com/maranithon) in elkaar geknutseld. De finishtijden zijn nog indrukwekkender: Gert, Elise en Lisa vlogen losjes over hun persoonlijk record. Marlies en Robby debuteerden met verve op deze heroïsche afstand. Bert, Filip, Alice, Annick en Dirk kwamen breed lachend over de finish (al dan niet na een traantje van ontlading). Conclusie: supertrainster Chris zag dat het goed was.

Minstens even mooi was het enthousiasme dat tijdens de voorbereidingen groeide bij de marathon’ers. Helpers schoten als paddestoelen uit de grond, atleten ontpopten zich tot verrassend professionele fotografen en overal op het 42,2km lange parcours werd gesupporterd met een overweldigend enthousiasme (spandoeken inclusief). Wie had ooit gedacht dat een loopevent voor amper 10 personen zo’n verbondenheid kon creëren. We zouden bijna hopen dat er een tweede editie komt, al is het zonde van die wereldwijde pandemie.
