Abes bestaat nog in Corona-tijden!

Een dag na de intraclub op de piste konden ook de lange afstands- en wegatleten nog eens proeven van het race-gevoel.
Na hun geslaagde Mara-Ni-Thon in september, organiseerden Ine en Yves een 10 mijl in en rond het Park van Hove.

Een loper moet lopen, en dan nog liefst in een wedstrijd af en toe. Terwijl de rest van Vlaanderen genoot van het allereerste terrasje, organiseerde enkele ABES-enthousiastelingen de atleten-variant van dit Sinterklaasgevoel. Op zondag 9 mei vond de ‘ABES Sweet 16’ plaats, een officieuze 10 mijl ter vervanging van de Antwerp 10 Miles. Met een rollende start van 4 atleten per 10 minuten geheel covid-proof.
 
Onder een stralende zon was het een blij weerzien voor 43 atleten en 15 bevoorraders/seingevers/helpers. Wat heerlijk is het toch om nog eens te kunnen genieten van het clubgevoel dat we al zo lang moeten missen.
 
De omstandigheden waren goed, misschien zelfs wat té goed. Na de wintertemperaturen van april voelde 20 graden aan als de Sahara. Menig atleet genoot ook nog eens van een partijtje tegenwindboksen tussen de Lintse velden. Maar zelfs onder deze zware omstandigheden werden er absolute toptijden neergezet. Ward liep in 1:01:20 vlotjes naar de eindzege, Peter en Joost vervolledigden het (virtuele) podium met een knappe tijd van 1:06:28. Minstens even knap is onze jeugd die de top-vijf compleet maakte: Daan en Jelle debuteerden op de afstand van 16,1km en liepen respectievelijk 1:12:11 en 1:12:53.
 
De vrouwen waren aan elkaar gewaagd: zowel Janne, Louis-Marie als Nele liepen exact dezelfde tijd van 1:18:19. Marlies en Elise – die de 10 Miles samen afwerkten – volgden met 1:19:06.
 
Los van deze tijden werd door iedereen gelachen, afgezien en nog wat meer gelachen. Laat ons daar nog een beetje van nagenieten met enkele foto’s van deze prachtige dag.
